OUR PROCESS

We use Continuous Process Improvement in a TEAM environment in conjunction with technology to be innovative, safe, environmentally sensitive and profitable. We build long term relationships as valued partners to our customers and our suppliers. We make investments to maintain reliable manufacturing operations that enhance customer and shareholder value through strategic growth and improved operational effectiveness.

KapStone operating units have primary responsibility for compliance with all environmental regulations and requirements. Therefore, it is necessary that good communications on environmental matters exist between the individual operating units and corporate management.

OUR PRODUCTS

We produce Containerboard and Kraft Papers, DuraSorb® Saturating Kraft, and Kraftpak® Unbleached
Folding Carton, from renewable resources. Paper fiber and sawtimber are supplied in compliance with sourcing requirements of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®1 and tracked through the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® Chain of Custody. Our containerboard products are converted by our customers into packaging products that have some of the highest recycling rates in North America.

OUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Each facility shall operate in a manner that does not create significant risk or harm to human health or the environment. Each facility should assess its operating manpower to make sure it is capable of providing the necessary day-to-day operation and maintenance of its environmental treatment and control facilities and management programs.

OUR PERFORMANCE

We set annual operating goals to further reduce air emissions, conserve water resources and reduce chemical losses. We are committed to Continuous Improvement by reducing emissions which is just a part of our Sustainable Commitment. Our work in the areas of carbon foot printing and energy efficiency is included in our annual objective setting. We recognize the responsibility of providing fellow employees with a safe and healthy work environment. As such Safety is an operating value of our company. Our OSHA safety incident goal is to achieve world class safety performance.

OUR FUTURE

We are committed to evaluating our environmental performance and establishing annual goals to continually improve, integrating pollution prevention and employee diligence in our daily operations.

We will continue to make capital and process improvements to reduce all emissions, reduce solid waste, reduce chemical usage, and reduce water usage.

We will continue implementation of our Environmental Management System to insure 100% regulatory compliance and meet our performance goal of Zero Environmental Incidents.
